Welcome to FPC Merchantville
Welcome to our Year of Jubilee here at the First Presbyterian Church of Merchantville. A year of Jubilee? This is a year that we have designated to focus especially on what the Lord Jesus has done FOR US from His birth, through His Life, to His death and resurrection, and through His Ascension and offering of the Holy Spirit. It is a year where we invite the whole family of faith to respond in joyful thanksgiving, in personal recommitment and deliberate outreach to be imitators of Christ, doing as He did for our God and Neighbors.
We invite you to come and see the Spirit at work in our midst. We are looking at serious questions as we celebrate. What has Jesus done in our lives? What can we do in response in a world where the chaos seems so overwhelming? If those questions strike a chord in your own lives, perhaps this is a place where we can find answers together.
If you’re looking for a church home in the our area, you’ll love our church. Find out why and plan your visit here.
Babies through fifth-grade kids get to experience Jesus in a safe, age-appropriate environment.
Your generosity in support of the church is an opportunity to expand the work of this congregation to do more.

Hello! I am Rev. Peter Hofstra, although I go by Pastor Pete around the church. Thank you for taking a moment in this little slice of cyberspace. You are on the edge of discovering an amazing, loving congregation here in Merchantville, New Jersey. We are in a place right now where we are looking seriously at what Jesus has done for us as God’s children-and we are ALL God’s children. From there, we are looking hard at what it is that we can do, in turn, to take Jesus’ message of love and grace (because THAT is His message), and take to the world. It is chaos out there. We invite you to come and find a measure of the Lord’s peace with us.
We would love to answer them!
Good question, because it looks like limited street parking when you drive past the Church on Maple Avenue. But turn down Centre Street beside the church and you will find a big old parking lot behind the church, one we share with the school. Pull in, find a spot, and you will see the Welcome sign on the side of the church to guide you in.
There is! The whole family comes together to begin the worship service together. But then, before the pastor gets going on his message, there is a Message for Youth and Children. Led by Kristie Stuart, it is a Message our kids (although the adults will get something out of it too). Then, the kids are dismissed to Sunday School through the end of worship!
Our service lasts about an hour. Music, the Voice of Heaven, is the connector of all the elements of the service. We enter in with a greeting to the Lord, a call to come together. There is then the opportunity to lay down the burdens of the week before the Lord, allowing the Lord to sweep them out of the way of worship. We join together in peace, dismiss the kids (some argue that’s more peace), and come together to hear the Word of the Lord read and explored. Finally, we respond in prayerful thanksgiving and intercession. Everyone is then invited to the Hearth Room for a time of Fellowship and Good company after celebrating the Company of our Lord Jesus.
Our ministries are generally listed in our Worship Bulletin, either on the calendar or under the News of Heaven and Earth. The easiest way to connect is to contact the church office by email or telephone and we will put you in touch with our Contact people.
Our groups are also listed in our Worship Bulletin with times and locations. Once again, for contact information, contact the church office and we will put you in touch with the Contact people for each group.
Take a moment at the end of worship to talk to Pastor Pete on your way out of worship. Let him know. He will ask you to follow up with an email so time can be set aside to talk more indepth about the possibilities. Our church has active ‘in house’ missions and active partnership missions to get involved with.
